Why do I like this song?

Welcome to TSYTBT blog's first feature, "Why do I like this song?", in which I delve into the deep crevices of my brain, searching for the answer. You see, as an indie rock/electronic DJ, there are certain types of music I'm supposed to like. Honestly, though, I like songs that are straight up bad or odd as hell. More on the side of a popul(ar/ist) single than odd, really.

This week: Fat Joe f/Lil' Wayne, "Make it Rain".

Any blog post about Weezy F Baby owes considerable debt to Gawker Empire music site Idolator, which seems to be all over him. But this post isn't just about the self-proclaimed Best Rapper Alive Alive Since The Best Rapper Retired (the first time), but the rapper Jealous Ones (Still?) Envy. When we last left Fat Joe, he was 1)Not svelte 2)Not Big Pun (RIP), and 3)giving us "Get it Poppin'" with Nelly off the Terror Squad hit "Lean Back". Do you remember "Get it Poppin?", yeah you probably don't, except "I got that Latino American Express card, mami get whatever you like" and the manipulation of "suicide" just a bit better than Rick Ross and his fondness for the @lantec. But here he is again, with "Make it rain".

The song itself, or you know, the parts where Joe raps, are really pedestrian and prove to me absolutely nothing. Fat simply spits over a beat without relating to the hook, and making you remember, that HEY I'M FAT JOE AND I AM A RAPPER! "Make it Rain" gets no play on the radio for this long if it's not for Lil' Wayne, who had: the best verse on "Idlewild", a song about being a "fireman" that has nothing to do with Jawbreaker, and starring in one of the best mixtapes of the past two years, "Gangsta Grills 2" (FREE DJ DRAMA!!!), and he stunts like his daddy (uggh). On "Rain", he brags that he's in the "business of terror" that he'll "make it rain on these hos" and he advises that one should "bring an umbrella".

So, what does F Baby's star-stealing hook mean? It is this: the act of throwing singles (or hell, hundreds if you're, well, Lil' Wayne or Pacman Jones) at a stripper, simulating (really toxic) precipitation upon the dancer. Yep, another song about strippers, but it's not by the Ying Yang Twins. The only lines by Joe that are close to the hook are this:
" Owwww mami's body's bangin', she got it man she does it all
She gets it poppin' with no hands, I'll make it pour
I'll make it rain on 'em, I'm layin game to em"
I think you see my point. Why do I like this song, though?

It's got Weezy, it's a nice beat, and you can dance to it.

You can access the station via the web at www.wuvt.vt.edu, and also learn about our ongoing Radio Emergency campaign. This is not the only venue through which I run my show-I also post various thoughts and reminders about the show on MOG, at www.mog.com/watchbatteries. This blog serves as a channel to communicate selected cuts from features on the show.

The Show Yet to Be Titled airs every Wednesday, 9 A. M. to Noon, Eastern time (8C-7M-6P), and that's 14:00 in England. So far, I have two features:

Double Bonus:two songs from the same artist, electronic.
